ST.CHRISTOPHER'S ANGLICAN CHURCH
Burlington, Ontario

The project was inspired by the purchase of a pipe organ which was to replace the existing one and was to be redesigned to suit the specific site conditions at St. Christopher's. The church hired Alan T. Jackson & Company to modify and rebuild the new organ, which because of its size and in order not to lose the choir seating, had to be installed in a loft above the choir. James Bailey Architect was retained to provide architectural services related to the construction of a structural organ loft to accommodate the new pipework and the provision of a modified and enlarged choir loft below. The ceiling was designed to project the sound towards the congregation and has integrated lighting in it. The new choir loft has larger capacity, provides some flexible seating to allow for alternative musical performances and has hardwood flooring for much improved acoustics. The organ pipework was faced with a beautiful screen designed by "Casavant Fréres" and was installed in a way that allowed the sound to also migrate to the choir below (openings were left in the platform at each window recess).
